Sripuram Annadhanam Endowment Fund
Sripuram is pleased to announce a pioneering initiative for the long-term Annadhanam program, deeply rooted in Sri Sakthi Amma's commitment to offering meals to every temple visitor at no cost. Sripuram has created an endowment fund dedicated to Annadhanam to ensure this tradition continues in perpetuity.
This fund is designed with a specific purpose: the principal donations remain untouched to perpetually generate interest, which will be used to buy food and fund the meal service. As the endowment fund grows, so will the ability to provide for those seeking sustenance. This careful planning not only brings immediate relief but also secures the future of the Annadhanam program. It marks a step towards self-reliance, honoring Sri Sakthi Amma's vision and Sripuram's legacy and paving the way forward.
There are many different good deeds we can choose to perform. Yet among all the deeds, feeding others (called Annadhaanam) is considered the greatest.
This is because this way of giving, is able to offer full satisfaction and contentment to those receiving. That is why Annadhaanam is considered the greatest seva.
Even if we give money or gold or property, the thought and the feeling that, “This is enough” – which comes from a sense of contentment – will not be there. However, when we feed someone, there will come a point when they will be satisfied and say, “Enough”.
All dharma should be done according to one’s capacity and capability for sharing.
Remember: when we feed someone, we are not simply feeding the body. Feeding others brings much happiness for their soul and this equals feeding the Divine. Such a benefit brings great blessings and much good karma for the person who performs Annadhaanam.
—Sri Sakthi Amma
Annadhanam occupies a unique and revered position within the diverse landscape of charitable giving, celebrated as the 'Mahadanam'—the greatest donation.
Providing food not only addresses physical hunger but also carries profound spiritual significance. Engaging in Annadanam is believed to create good karma, or positive spiritual merit, because it embodies selflessness and compassion. Annadhanam is a charitable act and a deeply spiritual practice that enriches both the giver and the receiver.
With the steadfast support of Sri Sakthi Amma’s donors and the wider community, we trust that the endowment fund will continue the legacy of compassion and service that defines Sri Narayani Peedam and will ensure that the tradition of feeding people endures for generations to come.
