We love our volunteers! We are Better Together!
Seva is the Sanskrit word for ‘selfless service’.
Seva is work performed to benefit another without any expectation of a reward. In the ancient villages of India, people always helped travelers with food and shelter. They believed that this kind of service was a way to grow spiritually. They also were aware that helping to meet the needs of others resulted in a better community, thereby fostering togetherness.
Helping others in times of need does not require a special skill. Seva is for everyone and is a simple expression of compassion and a desire to uplift and assist people. On an even deeper level, it is understood that the person performing the seva will be the true beneficiary, as they experience the joy that one receives through service. In turn, this joy will slowly but surely connect the individual with their true nature – bliss – the ultimate nature that is ‘always joyful’.
Reading English at School
We have two schools where children learn all their classes in English. There are always students who need extra tutoring and we also set up daily library time where the students can read books with volunteers, improve their english & meet new people.
Cow Shed
We have a cow shed of 400 cows which needs to be cleaned twice a day. Above our volunteers cleaned the cow shed in preparation of the Gho Pongal - a special day in January to celebrate the sacredness of the cow as Universal Mother.
Green Sakthi Club
Green Sakthi is our environmental program and at our schools, we run Green Sakthi Club : hands-on experience of tree planting & maintaining the trees for students. We know that if a child grows up loving Nature, they will take care of it when they are older.
Volunteer at the school! Volunteer at the hospital! Volunteer at the temple! There is so much you can do!
Artist-in-residence
Rebecca Devaney from Ireland conducted a poster competition with the students during her month-long residency, teaching the children the principles of colour, design and powerful messages on the theme of the environment.
Tree watering & tree planting
We plant and water trees throughout the year around sunrise and sunset (the coolest times of the day). This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the delights of Nature.
Outreach Camps
Anyone can attend these outreach camps in the surrounding villages. It is an opportunity to visit rural areas and see these makeshift clinics attract hundreds of people in need of medical checkups.
Film makers/ Photographers
We always appreciate the talents and time of film makers and photographers to visit our programs.
Above is an image from Daniel in Australia who filmed a video for the students: the song was written in a workshop with musicians and put to music. The final video can be seen here.
Women’s Empowerment
If you are interested in design or creating items that could support the SAMMM Programme - we would love your input! Here are some items which they already make: purses, serviettes, cloth bags.
English Language classes
Our students always love meeting people from outside of India. These classes are in small group so the children can improve their confidence in speaking english. It’s always lot of fun too!
Kitchen & Dining Hall
It is possible to serve food to thousands of people at our kitchen as well as prepare food such a chopping vegetables in the early morning.

Help out with our Green Sakthi shop where we sell saplings, amazing compost and other wonder things connected to Nature.
